Brandhorst
paying a visit to my holy grail.
I went to Munich to check out the new Museum Brandhorst which hosts
the second largest collection on display of Cy Twombly´s work.
A whole floor for Twombly - definitely one of the best days in my
life. (the largest collection can be seen at the Menil Collection
Museum in Houston, Texas - which I have not yet been to)
Brandhorst has an amazing art collection including Warhol, Hirst,
Nauman, Richter, Katz, West ... (check out the whole list on the
website: http://www.museum-brandhorst.de/). The museum was especially
build for his collection and has just recently opened it´s doors.
Not only the art is worth a visit to Munich but the museum itself is
a piece of art. It was build by the Berlin architects Sauerbruch
Hutton who are famous for their very colorful buildings.
If you would like to know more you can find a lot on the website or
better go to Munich yourself and discover this fantastic museum and
collection.
Brandhorst not only ownes older pieces, he has also some of the
latest Twomblys from 2008 and the 12 paintings from the 2001 Venice
Biennale called "Lepanto". Moreover he ownes some of Twomblys
sculptures which have not been shown very often, yet.
I was overwhelmed by so much art from the man who´s work made me want
to become an artist about 15 years ago when I first saw a painting in
an ordinary school book for art class.
Eversince I have been following his work and I have only gotten more
and more inspiration from it.
Twombly revolutionised the way I look at art. He made me become so
much more insightful, more curious, more sensitive and more connected
to emotions within a drawing or painting, as well as any other
genre... When I look at his work I can see and feel things - I
understand how it talks to me because I can sense the connection
between the artist and his work. I mean it is not a secret - it is
all there - just look at his lines and scribbles and you will
experience how easy it can be to become attached to abstract art.
Twombly´s work is a mirror of himself, a direct insight into the mans
soul and thoughts.
Thank you for giving me and the world so much.
